Salihorsk miners demand salary increase

The independent trade union of miners of Belaruskali prepares a protest picket.

They plan to hold it Stroitel stadium in Salihorsk from 15:00 to 18:00 on August 15. The application for the picket was filed to the local district executive committee. Yury Zakharov, the deputy head of the independent union of miners, says, the aim of the picket is to express the opinion of trade union members on a number of current problems, camarade.biz reports.

“The main thing we want to focus on is the work pattern and the shift schedule able to secure the recommended labour and rest balance and full recovery. We are also concerned about workplace safety in general,” Yury Zakharov said, adding that trade union members have a constructive dialogue on the issue with Belaruskali's managers and study opinions of miners.

The picketers plan to raise other questions, among them salaries and better pensions.

According to the trade union deputy head, the picket will be carried out only if the authorities permit it. The trade union is not ready to violate laws.
