New EU sanctions against Russia to enter into force on September 12

The EU countries agreed upon imposing new sanctions against Russia.

They are to enter into force on Friday after being published in the official EU journal, Bloomberg informs with a reference to European diplomatic sources.

Reuters with a reference to a representative of the Prime Minister of the Great Britain David Cameron informs that on Thursday morning Cameron communicates with leaders of other European countries. By the end of the conversation they reached an agreement about a necessity to impose sanctions against Russia by the end of the week, RBK reports.

“This morning Prime Minister held negotiations with the Chairman of the European Council Herman van Rompuy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. They [participants of the talks] agreed that the package of sanctions is to be published by the end of the week,” Mr Cameron said.

The EU member countries have agreed upon extending sectorial sanctions against Russia last Monday. It was stated in the statement of the Chairman of the European Council Herman van Rompuy that they are to come into effect after being published in the Official Journal of the EU. Then Herman van Rompuy stated that the publication was to take place “in a next few days.” “It will give time for evaluation of observance of the ceasefire agreement and peace plan. Depending on the development of the situation the EU is ready to reconsider the agreed sanctions completely or partially,” the statement reads.
