Donald Tusk: EU to discuss sanctions against Russia in March

In March the European Union will discuss new steps on sanctions against Russia at the Summit of the member States of the community.

Donald Tusk, the President of the European Council, told about it in the European Parliament on Tuesday, January 13, TASS informs.

"In December we agreed that the best thing for then was to 'stay the course'. We will decide the next steps in March", he said.

Donald Tusk also said that the EU would support Ukraine financially.

In late February, early March 2014, unmarked troops, brought in from Russia and Crimean Black Sea navy bases, seized the Crimean peninsula.

March 16, 2014 there was held a so-called referendum on the status of the peninsula in the Crimea and Sevastopol, after which Russia administered Crimea as its part. Neither Ukraine nor the European Union, nor the United States did not recognize the vote and believe Crimea has been annexed.

After that, the United States and the European Union have introduced a number of economic sanctions against Russia. The West insists that Crimea is a part of Ukraine.
