Azarenka reaches Australian Open round three

Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka celebrated her second victory at the ongoing Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament this season.

Victoria Azarenka, current world number 44, held her nerve to beat Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki (7) in two sets 6-4, 6-2 to level off the personal record of meetings with the Dutch player at 4-4.

The Belarusian broke the Dane twice in the second set and clobbered 31 winners in the match.

In the opener the Belarusian needed an hour and 15 minutes to seal a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sloane Stephens of the United States (32).

Victoria Azarenka will next play Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (23). The Belarusian leads the personal record of meetings against the Czech player 3-0. Last time the two met was at the start of the Australian Open last year where the Belarusian celebrated a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka is taking part in the tournament for the tenth time.

Belarus' Max Mirnyi, 37, and Spain's Feliciano Lopez, 33, battled past the Australian tandem of Luke Saville and James Duckworth 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 to settle a meeting against India's Rohan Bopanna and Daniel Nestor of Canada in round two.

Max Mirnyi is making his 19th appearance in Melbourne. His best achievement so far has been the 2007 final in duet will Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden, where the two lost to world number one Bob and Mike Bryan.

The 2015 Australian Open will be over on 1 February.
