Worker of Plant of Tractor Parts in Babruisk: We haven't received salary for December

The Plant of Tractor Parts in Babruisk does not pay wages, does not provide workers with workwear and appoints “right” people to executive posts.

Charter97.org learnt it from a reader.

“I'd like to tell you the truth about the situation at the Babruisk-based Plant of Tractor Parts and Units. I work at one of the plant departments. I don't give my name for safety reasons. Our plant employs 3,500 people. About a half of them is the so called 'bosses', someone's father, sons and daughters. All of them hold managerial posts. They receive salaries, though this money should belong to workers. Cronyism is spread widely at the plant.

They haven't raised our salaries for two years. We had 2.7 million rubles in November and December 2014. Prices grow two times faster. We haven't received salaries for December yet, though it's time to pay utility bills, pay for your child's kindergarten, pay loans and so on. The advance payment is 350,000 rubles. It's funny. But it is not the saddest thing that we have.

Many workers are not provided with necessary things – workwear, a hammer, a chisel and Lineman's pliers. I have not been able to change my work clothes, because the plant has no new clothing.

The plant does not pay holiday payment on time. You can receive your pay when your holiday is over.

Our line worked properly only 6 days in January 2015. The rest of the time we didn't work or took unpaid leave. Two-thirds of workers don't receive wages.

Our director claims everything is fine and says we are the main employer of the Mahilou region. But it is not so. About 1000 tractors are at the plant's storage area. Their parts have been stolen. They are rotting there! It's the state's money, but who will answer for this?” the reader writes.

A charter97.org journalist called the plant's spokesman Aliaksandr Shunkevich, but he refused to talk.

“I won't talk to you on the phone. Come and look at the plant if you want and we will talk,” he said.

The Babruisk Plant of Tractor Parts and Units obtained notoriety after firing activists of independent trade unions. The activists went on hunger strike in protest, but it didn't help.
