Mirnyi out of Australian Open

Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Spain's Feliciano Lopez lost to Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcelo Melo of Brazil 0-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) in the Australian Open men's quarterfinal.

On the way to the round of last eight the Belarusian-Spanish duo defeated the Australian tandem of Luke Saville and James Duckworth 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, saw off India's Rohan Bopanna and Daniel Nestor of Canada 7-5, 6-3 and Jonathan Erlich of Israel and Treat Huey of the Philippines 7-5, 6-3.

Max Mirnyi made his 19th appearance in Melbourne. His best achievement so far has been the 2007 final in duet will Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden, where the two lost to world number one Bob and Mike Bryan.

The 2015 Australian Open will be over on 1 February.
