Mass Street Rally In Central Minsk: Boycott to Dictatorship!

Several hundreds of demonstrators have taken part in the protest rally against the fake elections.

Despite the fact that oppositional politicians have not urged people to protest rallies, several dozens of people gathered on October Square even before 20:00.

Among the participants there were activists of “European Belarus” civil campaign, a filmmaker Volha Mikalajchyk, the leader of sole traders Ales Makaeu. After a while the number of participants reached several hundreds. People unfurled the banner “Boycott to Dictatorship” and “Lukashenka, Step Down”, and lit flares.

Policemen from a special car demanded to leave the square. However activists answered to that by chanting: “Shame on you!” and whistling.

The leader of sole traders Ales Makaeu addressed the meeting. “We must fight for the situation when people in our country would not be thrown into prisons for their beliefs. We should be united,” he said. “We have a right for peaceful protest. There will be more of us, the fear of reprisals will fade.”

Drivers of the cars passing by supported the protesters by honks.

“We are protesting against rigging the “elections” results. We have this right under the Constitution,” a human rights activist Maryja Kasyan said.

Then protesters decided to move in the direction of the Red Church. The column started its movement along the sidewalks of Independence Avenue in the direction of the House of Government. People were chanting “Long live Belarus!”, some of them lit flares.

Special services’ officers and police blocked the way to the column near Minsk Hotel, however protesters continued there march.

Then protesters reached the Red Church, where they held the prayer for Belarus. Then they sang the hymn “Mighty God” and finished the rally.
