U.S. Senate Passes Bill Allowing Supply of Weapons to Ukraine

A bill on defense expenditures in 2016 fiscal year which started October 1 was amended with provisions regarding military assistance to Ukraine.

$300,000,000 may be available to the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, to provide appropriate security assistance and intelligence support, including training, equipment, and logistics support, supplies and services, to military and other security forces of the Government of Ukraine, according to the website of the U.S. Congress.

Appropriate security assistance and intelligence support includes real time or near real time actionable intelligence, lethal assistance such as anti-armor weapon systems, mortars, crew-served weapons and ammunition, grenade launchers and ammunition, and small arms and ammunition.

Counter-artillery radars that can detect and locate long-range Russian artillery are also included in the list, as well as unmanned aerial tactical surveillance systems,cyber capabilities,counter-electronic warfare capabilities such as secure communications equipment and other electronic protection systems.

The bill was earlier approved by the House of Representatives.
