The threat to Lithuania is posed not only by Russia, but by Belarus as well.

During the presentation of the Lithuanian Conservatives’ memorandum on the deterrence strategy towards Russia, a Lithuanian political analyst Mindaugas Jurkynas claimed that Belarus should be included in it, as the military integration of this country with Russia is growing at an exponential rate. It is reported by charter97.org correspondent.

“De facto Belarus is a part of Russia’s military integration. Despite all statements of Lukashenka and others, the military integration is going on at an exponential rate. All talk about whether this base (the Russian military base in Belarus) will be there or not – these are just tactical things. It would be better to include Belarus,” – he said.

The former Prime Minister of Lithuania and leader of the parliamentary opposition, one of the authors of the memorandum Andrius Kubilius responded in such a way that the authors of the strategy do not consider Belarus an independent state, that is why they are viewing it in the context of the Russian threat in general.

The conference on the topic of the another strategy of deterrence of the Russian threat in the Baltic Sea region, presented by Lithuanian Conservatives, was held on November 13 in the European Office of the Lithuanian Seimas.
