Zhyzneuski’s Mother: Question Of Awarding Hero Of Ukraine’s Title To My Son Still Open

Parents of the Belarusian killed in Maidan had a meeting with Petro Poroshenko.

The question of awarding the title of the Hero of Ukraine to the Belarusian citizen Mikhail Zhyzneuski remains open.

BelaPAN has learnt that from his mother Nina Zhyzneuskaya, who met with Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko on November 21.

“At the meeting with relatives of the Heavenly Hundred he said to us that the question is being dealt with, and in case the Verkhovna Rada approves that, he would sign appropriate documents,” – Zhyzneuskaya said.

On November 21 Ukrainians recalled the events in the Maidan in Kyiv two years ago. Poroshenko took part in a number of events, and among other things he met with relatives of the Heavenly Hundred’s heroes.

Nina Zhyzneuskaya and her husband were taken to Kyiv and accompanied by a civil activist from Svetlahorsk Yury Liashenka.

“Everything was held in a warm, but closed for the press, atmosphere, at the Administration of the President of Ukraine. The Zhyzneuski family was welcomed with a particular attention. After the meeting a ceremony of laying flowers in Institutska Street and viewing of the film about the Maidan. We visited the monument in Hrushevsky Street, and the place where Mikhail was murdered. There were candles burning, and people were bringing flowers,” – Liashenka said.

We remind that on November 21 Poroshenko announced that he signed a decree that a life allowance is to be paid to Mikhail Zhyzneuski’s parents. This document is published on the website of the Ukrainian president.

“Honouring the memory of the Heavenly Hundred’s hero Mikhail Zhyzneuski, a citizen of Belarus, who had laid down his life, defending the ideals of democracy, rights and freedoms of a person, the European choice of Ukraine during the Revolution of Dignity, with an aim to support his parents, I make a ruling to launch a life-long allowance named after Mikhail Zhyzneuski to his parents, Mikhail and Nina,” – the decree reads.

The manner of payment of the allowance is to be established and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
