Brest Activist Detained By Police Went Missing

On November 5 overnight Andrei Kavalchuk, targeted in the investigation of the case of Brest dwellers, who had planned to come to Minsk to participate in the protest rally on October 10, was detained by policemen.

It has been reported by Radio Racyja.

The trial of him and Hleb Hrynberg, Mikalai Khatsiniuk and Dzmitry Abramuk had been rescheduled twice.

On October 10 Hleb Hrynberg and Andrei Kavalchuk were detained when they left Brest and headed to Minsk, where they planned to participate in the National Flag March.

Until the last minute Andrei was in contact with the politician, the former political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich.

“He had sent several short messages, that he had been detained by policemen. When he was searched, they found a T-shirt. They battered him, handcuffed him and draw up a report that he was drunk. He refused to sign that report. They threw him away. He went to a forensic examination and verified battery-induced injuries, took a blood alcohol test. He received a referral to the Investigative Committee. At 3 a.m. I received the last piece of news from him. Now his phone is not answering,” Mikalai Statkevich said.
