Activists arrested in Minsk for posters on occasion of International Mother Language Day

The police detained four activists of the Alternative group in the centre of Minsk.

The leader of the public organisation Alternative, Aleh Korban, wrote it on Facebook.

“The police detained four Alternative activists in the centre of Minsk. The incident took place at 12:00 near Yakub Kolas Square as they were pasting posters on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day.

The detained activists are the organisation's press secretary Volha Burnevich, Siarhei Kachur, Volha Shurauliova and Uladzislau Zapasau. Photographer Siarhei Hudzilin is likely to have been detained, too.

Our activists were distributing these posters. Unfortunately, they didn't reach the main avenue,” he wrote.
