Barys Zhaliba: Belarussian ruble to continue its devaluation

Strengthening of the Belarusian ruble is temporary.

Over the last decade Belarusian currency has strengthened against dollar and euro by almost Br1000. This is despite the fact that gold reserves are reduced, and there are no new credits. Radio Svaboda asked the economist Barys Zhaliba to comment on the Belarusian ruble stabilization.

"It will not last long. It lasts for two or three regular tradings. Perhaps oil factor, temporarily stopped the decline in oil prices, contributes to the Russian and Belarusian currency stabilization. Psychological factor also affects the course.

But I don't think it will last long. It is a temporary, local phenomenon. I think the main and general trend is directed to the devaluation both of Russian and Belarusian ruble. That is the Belarusian ruble will soon continue the devaluation course", he said.
