Homel activist on hunger strike fined

Activist Kanstantyn Zhukouski continues his hunger strike in Homel remand prison.

The Court sentenced him to 10 day-arrest allegedly for disorderly conduct, the website Viasna Human Rights Center reports.

The activist was detained on February 20. He brought his complaint to the Regional Executive Committee, where he had a conflict with a policeman; as a result the activist was accused of disorderly conduct and sentenced to the arrest. Kanstantyn Zhukouski went on a 5 day dry hunger strike. On February 25, he began to drink water, because there was a danger to life and health, but he continues his strike.

A lawyer visited Kanstantyn Zhukouski. It turned out that February 25 the activist was taken to the Court and fined 10 basic units for alleged false denunciation.

Earlier the activist explained that on February 7 his friend called him and said that there were motocross participants from Russia and Belarus next to a public and political centre, in Paleskaia Str., and they smashed in the courtyard to tear down a white-red-white flag.

Zhukouski immediately called police and ran there. There were no one that day in the building, it was the day off. When the activist came there was no one but police. As a result Kanstantsin Zhukouski was accused of false squeal.

It should be reminded that club members of "Night Wolves" and "Russian riders" had the race "Belaya Rus" on the route Moscow - Smolensk - Navapolatsk - Minsk - Babruisk - Homel - Bryansk. The motor race was held from 4 to 8 February. "The pilgrims way will go through the holy historical sites of Russian-Belarusian lands. The event takes place in glory of holy warrior monks who performed an act of heroic virtue in the name of the Russian land, and aims to maintain and develop the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, its spiritual traditions and values", the organizers said.
