KGB captain not questioned in Mahileu court

Today the court will continue to eliminate the Mahileu Human Rights Center.

March 17 Mahileu Regional Court will be considering a claim of the main Justice Department of Mahileu Regional Executive Committee to liquidate the organization, Radio Svaboda reports.

The formal cause is the absence of a legal address.

Aliaksandr Samuseika, the Head of the main Department of Justice, says that the public association has violated the law - it has not provided the Department with documents necessary for state registration of change of registered office. Since December 5, 2014 the public association has not located at the address specified by its Charter because the lease agreement was terminated unilaterally.

The head of the Human Rights Center Uladzimir Krauchanka at the preliminary hearing, held on March 10, entered a petition to call the lessor Dzmitry Panamarenka and Captain of the KGB Haurylau as witnesses, who, according to Krauchanka, puts pressure on Panamarenka. Judge Aliaksandr Ramanau did not grant the petition and postponed the court hearing on March 17. The trial begins at 14:30.

Mahileu Human Rights Center is the only regional human rights organization in Belarus. It has been operating since 1998.
