Barysau canning plant’s workers have unpaid leave

They have already had 5 days’ “rest” in March.

Recently the editorial office of charter97.org received many complaints from staffers of the Belarusian Railway concerning labour conditions: compulsory leaves, payment of wages and benefits by instalments. Workers of other plants reacted to that. One of the readers of charter97.org told about the situation at Barysau canning plant.

“Not only has the Belarusian Railway been hit: every second enterprise has lots of people who allegedly need unpaid leaves. But do people have money to have unpaid leaves? Is it alright with wages of Br2 mln like employees of Barysau canning plant? However, everyone had 5 days off in March!” the reader writes.

Representatives of the plant refused to clear up the situation to charter97.org. They said it is not a good topic for a telephone conversation.

“Come to us personally, and we shall discuss that. Anyone could present himself as a journalist over the phone. In brief, unpaid leaves are connected to economic issues,” a person in the office of the CEO said.

We remind that recently many plants are moving to a shortened working week, or make their workers write applications for unpaid leaves. Thus, in early March the editorial office of charter97.org received complaints from such enterprises as Gomselmash, Asipovichy plant of automobile units, Svetlahorsk plant of concrete products, Babrujsk plant of tractor parts and units, Mogilevtransmash, Strommashina, MTZ, Gomeldrev, Minsk Bearing plant, the Belausian Railway, Vitebskiye produkty company and others.
