Activist from Baranavichy learns in March by chance that he was tried in January

A rights inspector of the Electronics Trade Union learnt from a letter from the prosecutor's office of Niasvizh that he had been fined three penalty units on January 12, 2015.

It is reported by Viasna human rights centre.

At the end of 2014, Aliaksandr Vaitseshyk asked at a café in Niasvizh to give him a book of complaints, but the police accused him of disorderly conduct (swearing in public). Trial over the case was postponed due to Vatseshyk's sickness.

The trade union activist learnt some days ago that the trial had been held in absentia. “I spent almost three days in the temporary detention facility in Niasvizh on false accusations. It was very cold in the cell and I fell ill. The trial was postponed. But it's only now that I learnt from a letter from the prosecutor of Niasvizh that I was fined 3 basic units on January 12,” Vaitseshyk said.

The trade union activist does not agree with the court decision and plans to appeal against it.
