Khotsimsk mechanics go on strike

With the help of a strike mechanics of Khotsimsk SPK Octiabr-Berezki made a dismissal of Chairman of Cooperative possible.

Khotsimsk activist Valery Karankevich said that on March 17 mechanics refused to appear at work (field-work period) unless the Chairman Mikalai Sauchanka, maltreated his employees, was dismissed. He used to work as the first Deputy Chairman of the Khotsimsk District Executive Committee, was in charge of district agricultural sector, and he knows the situation of Khotsimsk agricultural enterprises, Viasna Human Right Center reports.

"On March 17 mechanics of SPK Octiabr-Berezki refused to appear at work, unless the Chairman Mikalai Sauchanka, maltreated his employees, is dismissed", Valery Karankevich said. Representatives of Khotsimsk District Executive Committee came to the SPK Octiabr-Berezki and persuaded mechanics to start working, promised to replace the Chairman as soon as possible. Today I've found that since March 24 Kakotau Mikalai Ivanavich has taken the position of the acting Chairman of the SPK Octiabr-Berezki. He used to take this position before. Recently, he has been in charge of SPK Lipovka. Thus, due to the common position, mechanics of SPK Octiabr-Berezki managed to achieve fulfilment of their demands.

Valery Karankevich believes protest moods among rural workers will constantly increase.

Now rural citizens in Khotsimsk region have low salaries, which are paid out not always on time. And what's more, many managers maltreat people, using threats and foul language. The impunity promotes it. Many leaders at enterprises have their positions retaken because of absence of personnel reserve and mistakes in personnel policy of the leadership of Khotsimsk District Executive Committee.
