Belarusians of St Petersburg mark Freedom Day

The Belarusian Civil and Cultural Association of St Petersburg celebrated the Freedom Day on March 25.

As charter97.org learnt, the celebration of the 97th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic was held under national white-red-white flags in the national literatures library. Mikalai Mikalayeu, the chairman of the association, presided at the meeting. Participants presented their reports on the history of the BPR creation in March 1918 and details of the independence proclamation.

Members of the Belarusian Civil and Cultural Association discussed plans and activities of the organisation and took a decision on preparing tours on Belarus-related sites in Saint Petersburg. They also discussed an information campaign and promotion of the association on the Internet.

Mikalai Mikalayeu said that the annual meeting of Belarusians was scheduled for 15 June. He invited all persons interested to prepare reports on the history of Belarusians in St Petersburg. Artist Yanka Cherniakevich invited to visit his exhibition, which is due to open at Stieglitz Art Academy in late May.
