Leader of market traders in Baranavichy summoned to prosecutor's office

The reason for summoning Mikalai Charnavus to a prosecutor's office is unknown.

Mikalai Charnavus, the leader of market traders of Baranavichy, has been summoned to the interdistrict prosecutor's office in Baranavichy for March 4 for giving explanations.

The activist received a summons on March 2. The document is signed by Kamisarau, the chief prosecutor of the security department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus, Viasna human rights centre reports.

“It's hard to say why they want me to give explanations. I think a possible reason is a poster calling to boycott Lukashenka's decree No.222 that appeared near my working place at the local market on February 15. Another possible reason is that most market traders in Baranavichy who sell light industry products stopped their work on March 1,” Mikalai Charnavus said.

Mikalai Charnavus was invited for a conversation to a police department on February 28. Deputy head of the police department lieutenant colonel Eldar Vilchkouski talked to the activist about observing laws by market traders, whose activity, according to Mikalai Charnavus, must grow after the coming into force of Lukashenka's decree No.222 on March 1.
