Azarenka loses to Pennetta in Miami

Belarus' number one Victoria Azarenka (world number 36) completed her performance in the $5.3 million Miami Open falling to world number 28 Flavia Pennetta of Italy.

The Belarusian lost her battle 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (6-8). The game lasted for 127 minutes.

Victoria Azarenka beat Silvia Soler-Espinosa of Spain 6-1, 6-3 in the opener and advanced to the third round seeing off Serbia's Jelena Jankovic (17) 6-1, 6-1.

Flavia Pennetta will next play world number three Simona Halep.

Victoria Azarenka made her fifth appearance on Miami courts. In 2009 she won the tournament beating Serena Williams 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Spain's Feliciano Lopez lost to the Columbian duo of Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal 6-7 (4-7), 3-6 in the opener.

The competitions in Miami will complete on 5 April.
