Uladzimir Labkovich: “Vote count” in Belarus reminds a special op (Video)

9

An intrigue during an election vote count is a characteristic of a democratic state.

It’s when voters and challengers, bunching their fists, are waiting for the results until the last vote. But it is not the story of Belarus. Over the 20 years Belarusians have learnt not to wait for surprises. Even opponents of the leader of the state know the result of the election. Alyaksandr Lukashenka himself does not conceal that he rigs the election. The result of the current presidential election in Belarus is predictable. However, the hands of the authorities should be observed. And it could be done in the only way – through election observation, Viasna human rights centre writes.

Oppositional structures have signed an agreement that they are going to observe the election campaign together this year.

As said by the guest of the programme Two to Two Ales Silkou from The Right for Choice campaign, every presidential campaign the authorities have one goal: the election should be recognized. And they are looking for new ways of falsifications.

“The method of vote count is archaic in Belarus, and we are the only in the region where this secret vote counting, reminding a special operation, is taking place,” Uladimir Labkovich, a coordinator of the campaign Human Rights Defenders for Free Election said.
