Worker of Minsk Bearing Plant complains about blackmailing by managers

Plants managers make workers take unpaid leave under the threat of changing their employment contracts.

A reader of charter97.org told about an incident at the Minsk Bearing Plant that took place today. Plant managers switched off heating and ordered workers to take an unpaid day off tomorrow. They threaten to change the employment contract if employees refuse to obey.

“They switched off heating at the plant and told all workers to take an unpaid day off tomorrow. If workers refuse, they say they will unilaterally change the employment agreement by one working day a week and four working days a months. They refuse to sign resignation notices. If a worker doesn't sign documents on significant unfavourable changes to employment conditions, he will be fired in two weeks due to changes in the collective employment agreement,” the reader said.

Charter97.org contacted plant representatives but they refused to comment on the situation.

Many companies lay off their employees or press on them in an attempt to cut expenses and keep afloat amid crisis.
