Milinkevich: If people get depressed after election, it’s better not to participate in such “election”

The leader of “For Freedom” movement confirmed that he had denied to participate in the presidential “election.”

What stands behind this decision actually? The discussion with the guest of the TV programme “A Conversation with Kalinkina” at Belsat TV channel, Alyaksandr Milinkevich, was dedicated to this topic.

“The circumstances have changed. We are a public organisation, though we have political goals as well, as we honestly say. For example, a free election. We have joined the process, took part in the sessins of the Seven for the sake of consolidation, it was the only aim for us. And if after so many month the opposition has not united, if there is no single candidate, we decided that it would be a responsible move not to participate in the election,” Alyaksandr Milinkevich said. “In our decision we have written that we abstain from participation in the election. We do not say that we quit or we were aggrieved. We simply believe that it is not serious to take part in the election and go to people, invite people from provinces, in case we are not united.”

“When there would be a democracy, a single candidate would not be needed. And today we are simply to show that there is an alternative,” the politician said. “A result of a campaign for me is not simply “to have a wonderful walk”, and the growth of my recognizability, and Manaeu’s report that my rating is higher. The most important thing for me in a campaign is the feeling of people on the first day after the vote. If they feel more optimism and faith, want changes and not so intimidated by these changes, that’s the right result. And if people get even more depressed after the election, it’s better not to participate in the election at all.”

Earlier “For Freedom” movement, which leader is the former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Milinkevich, stated that they would not nominate their candidate and support other candidates in the presidential election in 2015.
