Power cuts for 3 days ahead of Dazhynki harvest festival

Residents of some streets in the town of Talachyn were warned about power cuts.

The district authorities decided that money for preparations for this year's regional harvest festival can be spent on repairing everything that hasn't been repaired for decades. For example, they want to solve such an old problem of Talachyn as worn high-voltage lines. The scope of work is so wide that residents of six nearby streets will have to live without electricity for up to three days, Radio Svaboda reports.

The authorities warn in the local newspaper Nasha Talachynshchyna that people should expect power cuts announcements and “think about places to store their products”. People will have to live without television, the Internet, as well as without an opportunity to use a washing machine or other home appliances for a few days. The news doesn't make people happy, especially those with small children.

The authorities plan to repair 95 objects in Talachyn as part of preparations for the regional harvest festival. The list includes children's facilities, the district culture centre, food service places and some plants.

The Dazhynki preparation centre, consisting of regional and district officials, has to admit that the road repair, which hasn't been carried out for years, requires much money. Officials say they won't be able to repair all objects by the autumn and districts laying far from the Talachyn centre won't be improved for the lack of money.
