Child can by registered at police station for absence of safety reflector

Sanctions can be imposed on teenagers over the age of 16.

A story about registering a six-year-old child at a police station found a wide response among readers. Reader of charter97.org Tatsiana wrote about absurd actions by the police.

“Why are you so surprised? A juvenile inspector talked to parents at a parent-teacher conference at school. According to her, a child can be registered at a police station for not wearing a safety reflector in dark hours. Is it normal?” she writes.

Aliaksandr Lastsouski, a spokesman for the Minsk police, advised to contact spokesperson for the Minsk road police Tatsiana Kharlinskaya for comments, who, for her part, noted that everything depended on the age of a child and a particular incident.

“The road police does not register minors. It is the task of the police, or to be more precise, the juvenile commission. If a child is under 14, his or her parents are punished for his or her offences. If a child is over 14 years old, he or she can face sanctions depending on the offence. Sanctions for the absence of a reflector can be imposed on persons over 16 years old in accordance with article 4.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences of Belarus. The juvenile commission considers every particular case and decides whether a minor should be registered at the police station,” she said.
