Russians demand Lukashenka’s holding referendum on unification in 2015

The Russian newspaper threatens Belarus with liquidation.

It is said in the article of Eduard Birov “It’s high time for Minsk to make up its mind”, published in Vzglyad newspaper on April 7.

“In the epoch of the global transformation of the entire world, when agonizing West is trying to make the world, and primarily Russia, collapse, it will not be possible to sit it out in the quarters,” he writes. “The moment has come for polarization of forces and self-determination: who are y and with whom are you are?

No one will be able to remain a cosy European flat between the poles of force, and receive political dividends from the both sides. Now the Czech Republic and the Baltic States, which had been dreaming to sit it out in a quiet corner, have to receive a column of the US army. And they have to recall that they are situated near Russia, not the US.

Ukraine was split not because of Yanukovych or Poroshenko, but because it is an objective outcome of the aggravation of contradictions between the West and Russia. The time has come to make up one’s mind, and it has become clear that Ukraine as a transitional quarter is over, and it’s time to choose, are you with Maidan and the West, or with Russia.”

As said by Eduard Birov, the same can happen to Belarus, “and even with the same blood,” in case the leadership of the country would not make a choice in favour of the “Russian world.” And moreover, the choice should be specifically imperial, as the journalist believes: “not just to sit it out in your little house, fearing to split with each of the sides, and even making money on the sanctions against Russia, but to blend into Russia with one’s territory and soul, to join the ranks of Russia, to take up and share its heavy cross.”

The author of the article insists on common economy and currency, common borders, full merger of all life spheres, common government, and calls occupation of Belarus by Russia “a historical necessity.”

“In this connection the only way out of the current situation for Lukashenka, if he is really a patriot of Belarus and the Russian world, is to hold a referendum on joining Russia together with the autumn election of 2015, and then, depending on the will of the nation, to make a landmark decision.

Russia needs for the Russians of Belarus to make their clear and direct choice, without this Ukrainian wabbling between the two poles. In case Lukashenka takes such an initiative, in winter 2015 Belarus will already become a part of the Russian Federation as a special autonomy. But Mr Lukashenka should give up on his ambitions as the leader of “a sovereign state” for that, which is undoubtedly an extremely painful moment for any politician, and especially for such an experienced and high-status one,” the journalist believes.
