No Congress of democratic forces. Failure to agree

Opposition structures have failed to agree upon holding the Congress of democratic forces, which was planned to nominate a single presidential candidate.

The issue on the congress was discussed on April 8 between seven representatives of opposition structures: The Belarusian left party Fair World, the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), the For Freedom movement, the Tell the Truth campaign, the United Civil Party (UCP), the Organizing Committee on creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party (BCD) and the BPF Party, BelaPAN reports.

"I can only state that Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu proposed to hold a Congress to collect signatures for nomination of the delegates, the leader of the UCP Anatol Lyabedzka said. — Today, five structures have spoken out the proposal, two have not supported it. The decision is not taken according to our internal rules. The Tell the Truth campaign and the BNF Party did not support Nyaklyaeu's proposal".

The co-Chairman of the BCD Pavel Seviarynets, who took the initiative to hold of the Congress of democratic forces last year, and the first Deputy of the For freedom movement Yury Hubarevich abstained from voting.

Hubarevich only said: "Nothing new has happened. For Freedom movement has already stated that the opposition cannot negotiate. Today we have had different topics for discussion. The only thing we have agreed upon is not to comment on the today's work meeting".

It should be noted that we currently have two nominations for participation in the presidential elections of 2015. They are Anatol Lyabedzka, his nomination was accepted at the meeting of the UCP in May 2014, and Tatstsiana Karatkevich, the activist of the Tell the Truth" movement.

At the same time Tell the Truth offers to nominate its representative as a presidential candidate from the initiative of Popular Referendum (it includes Tell the Truth, BSDP (Hramada), the BPF Party, and the For Freedom movement). The political commission of the BPF Party has already decided to support Karatkevich.
