The dictator has ordered the government to react in case barriers for exports of Belarusian goods to the West would be created.

Such an instruction has been given today by Lukashenka during his visit to Minsk Tractor Plant, BelTA reporter informs.

“As for the West: they (representatives of the western countries ) visit our country and I always advise them against such steps. We have told them: you fence off from us, we will fence off from you and see how you will trade via the Baltic states or Ukraine,” he noted.

Lukashenka reminded that “even when Russia imposed the retaliatory sanctions on a number of western products, Belarus has never stopped cooperating with western suppliers.”

The ruler has also demanded the government to take all the necessary measures in order to defend the home market from “unjustified imports of those kinds of goods which are manufactured in Belarus.”

“God forbid that this year our enterprises buy tractors and other vehicles produced by us,” he said.

Addressing the government, Lukashenka stressed: “We are not WTO members, we do not have any obligations to anybody. Let’s defend our home market, don’t give it to anyone, from an iron to a tractor and a car.”

As said by him, in the nearest future a special consultation on this issue is planned. The government is to report what measures are taken, and to give an account whether this or that import category is necessary.

“And now we have opened our country: do what you please to us. Such things should not happen. We must defend, support and promote our own manufacturer. Only in such a way we are going to diversify markets,” he added.

Addressing the workers, he urged them to “hold tight to their places of work.”

“You should understand the current situation. Hold tight to your places of work. Don’t listen to speechmakers much,” he said. Lukashenka also said that he is going to purge labour collectives from “lazybones” and “social parasites.”

“We are going to preserve labour collectives, but we are going to support only those who want to work,” he said. “An even stronger competitiveness is yet to come. That is why there is no place for lazybones, spongers, alcoholics and swindlers in labour collectives.”
