Belarusian Delta Bank declared bankruptcy

Delta Bank has filed a bankruptcy petition to the court. Creditors of the bank have received notifications about that.

According to information received by the bank’s creditors, Delta Bank acknowledges its stable insolvency, and filed a bankruptcy petition to the court, BelaPAN informs.

As it was informed earlier, on March 12 the National Bank appointed interim administration of ZAO Delta Bank. The decision was passed by the National Bank “basing upon analysis of current performance indicators of the Belarusian ZAO Delta Bank,” and also “in the context of the negative events which are happening at AO Delta Bank (Ukraine).”

On March 18 the National Bank withdrew the banking licence of Delta Bank. This decision is explained by the regulator by “a failure to comply with certain licence requirements by the bank.” Besides, the National Bank charged Delta Bank with creation of a “financial situation, which has caused the failure to fulfill its obligations to bank depositors by the bank.”

In connection with withdrawing the licence of Delta Bank in March, the procedure of guaranteed returning money to depositors was initiated. We remind that in 2008 a decree was passed in Belarus, according to which the state guarantees depositors that 100% of their bank deposits are returned to them in case the banking licence of the bank, that had accepted money of citizens, is withdrawn.

Representatives of the banking sector of Belarus explain the financial problems met by Delta Bank by external causes. As it was informed earlier, the Ukrainian Delta Bank owned by Mykola Lahun, was found insolvent by the National Bank of Ukraine in early March.

It should be noted that Mykola Lahun owns almost one fourth of shares of the Belarusian Delta Bank. In addition, a Dutch structure owns more than 75% of bank’s shares. The number of staff of Delta Bank is more than 1,000 workers.
