Independent journalist from Biaroza to stand new trial

A new administrative case has been opened against independent journalist Tamara Shchapiotkina.

It became known after a district police officer visited an activist of Tell the Truth campaign.

The district police officer visited Leanid Dubanosau and said that a prosecutor's office took note of the absence of a telephone line in city district No.10 after a story by Tamara Shchapiotkina on Radio Racyja. Leanid Dubanosau thought the 10-year problem would be solved, but the police officer preferred to speak about journalist Shchapiotkina.

“He said that an article by Tamara Shchapiotkina had appeared on Radio Racyja and asked if I knew about Shchapiotkina's conversation with the local authorities. I said I didn't know. He began to ask how I had acquainted with her. I answered I knew many correspondents from different media outlets. He also asked what I had written to the media. I said I sent an e-mail to Radio Racyja about my situation and added I didn't know who worked on my story,” Leanid Dubanosau told Radio Racyja.

According to Leanid Dubanosau, the district police officer made a police report, but his handwriting was illegible, so Leanid couldn't read it.
