Fire at nursing home in Vitsebsk kills several people

Two persons died during a fire at a nursing home for elderly and disabled people in Frunze Avenue in Vitsebsk, the Emergency Ministry reports.

Fire-fighters received information about the fire at 23:07 on June 9. They arrived at the site five minutes later and saw heavy smoke. A room on the first floor of the three-floor building was on fire.

Fire-fighters released a nurse's aide from the lift and saved a disabled woman from a room. The women received medical attention. Forty seven evacuated persons were not injured.

The fire-fighters found bodies of two persons with musculoskeletal disorders on the second floor.

A nurse sought medical assistance after the fire. She was taken to hospital.

The fire was localised and extinguished. The cause is being investigated.
