To build a house similar to Minister Shchotkina’s, average Belarusian should work for 184 years

At the moment the minister is finishing construction of her own house in an elite settlement, Vesninka.

Maryjana Shchotkina believes that Belarusians should work even more. She recommends those who have low salaries, “to be busy as bees”, and find a side job, BelaPAN writes.

“In case people decide to have two or three children, or more, they also understand that they should “be busy as a bee”, so to say. There is every possibility to earn more money today. We have noticed that almost 93% Belarusians have only one place of employment, including men. But in case a mother is a stay-at-home parent, a father should be more active at work,” she said.

The minister herself is expecting her private house in the elite settlement called Vesninka to be built soon. Other high-ranking officials are her neighbours as well. The cost of a land plot and real estate, similar to Shchotkina’s, is estimated by estate agent at about $1 million.

The average salary in Belarus in April 2015 was $452 per month. It means that a common Belarusian would have to work for 184 years to become an owner of such a house. And it could happen under the condition that he would spend all earned money on this purchase.
