Non-food imports to Belarus fell by quarter

Imports of non-food to Belarus was about 1.2 billion dollars in the period from January to April.

It fell by almost 400 million dollars in comparison to the same period last year. Non-food imports reduced by 24.4% in January-April compared to the period last year, BelaPAN reports.

The total amount of consumer imports in January-April was 2.26 billion dollars (a decline of 10% in monetary terms). The import of food grew 15.3% (to 1.05 billion dollars) due the seasonal growth of vegetable and citrus fruit prices.

The decreased amount of non-food imports is caused by reduced demand for durable goods. The only exception is cars, the import of which showed a significant increase in January-April 2015. Imports of cars from Russia grew 3.5-fold in January-April due to lower prices in comparison to the same period last year.

Statistics on the other durable goods demonstrates a reduction in imports.
