Mahilou residents: Plants don't work, there are many unemployed people

Aliaksandr Lukashenka promised to “open plants” during his first presidential campaign 20 years ago.

BelaPAN news agency asked residents of Mahilou if he fulfilled his promise.

“Lukashenka is given to Belarus to make Belarusians die. Transmash plant works four days a week. Strommashina plant does not work at all. The Carriage Plant, which was opened by him, cannot sell its products. I suspect they will give me a carriage and a horse to pull it as a retirement gift.”

“He opened many plants. Some still work. He is not a prophet. He couldn't have foreseen everything. We can afford more than 21 years ago. Look how many cars are in streets. They don't belong to oligarchs. Many young families can afford to build a flat.”

“He hasn't fulfilled his promise. He didn't know what he wanted. Many plants don't work in Mahilou. People don't earn much. We have many unemployed people. Only private business and trade develop little by little.”

“Yes, he fulfilled it. All plants used to work. Now we have an economic crisis, which is connected to Russia and Ukraine. It affected Belarus, so we have problems.”

“No. Most enterprises don't work. We don't have anything good. Maybe something changes, but it remains bad today.”

“Many plants were not opened. On the contrary, many stop working and cut their staff.”
