Minsk residents to be tried for refusal to admit construction workers into their flats

Residents of block of flats No.109 in Independence Avenue in Minsk have been summoned to court.

Terra Engineering company, who ordered works on constructing the additional third and roof storeys in the building, filed individual suits against residents of the building, charter97.org learnt from the press service of Europerspective organisation.

Some of the residents were against the construction of additional storeys. They refused to give construction workers access to their flats to reinforce walls and partitions. People think such works are dangerous for load-bearing structures, threaten the life and health of people and cannot be carried out without the resettlement of tenants.

Terra Engineering company went to court to make owners of flats give access to their flats to perform construction works, the press release says.

Owners are going to defend their interests. They prepared counter-suits and a collective motion, asking to consolidate all suits regarding the building.

Residents of block of flats No.109 in Independence Avenue, which hasn't been repaired for 63 years, have been struggling for their rights and interests for several years. On 17 December 2014, a banner “the building is 63 years old. We want repair. Repairs without additional storeys” appeared on the building. On April 8, dwellers held a picket on stairs.
