Belarus' Govortsova advances to Wimbledon second round

Belarus' Olga Govortsova won her Wimbledon first round match.

In the opener Govortsova, 122nd in the WTA rankings, defeated Romania's Andreea Mitu (71) 6-1, 6-1. The meeting lasted for 50 minutes. In the second round the Belarusian player will face Alize Cornet (27) of France who defeated Croatia's Ana Konjuh (55) in the opening match.

Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Victoria Azarenka also won their first round matches. Victoria defeated Estonia's Anett Kontaveit (145) 6-2, 6-1; Aliaksandra won a three-set match against Lin Zhu of China (116th) 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

On 1 July Azarenka will have a second round match against Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium (96) who defeated Germany's Annika Beck (70) in the opener 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. Aliaksandra Sasnovich will play Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas (34) who overcame Italian Flavia Pennetta (26) 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

In the men's doubles the Belarusian Sergey Betov /Alexander Bury overcame the qualification barrier. At the start of Wimbledon the Belarusians will play Kyle Edmund/Edward Corrie of the UK.

Belarusian tennis veteran Max Mirnyi, the winner of 12 Grand Slam doubles titles, and his doubles partner Lukasz Kubot of Poland will take on French Adrian Mannarino/Lucas Pouille in the first round at Wimbledon. Max Mirnyi's best performance at Wimbledon was in 2003 (runner up w/Mahesh Bhupathi).
