The first round of Belarus-EU dialogue on human rights was held in Brussels on July 28.

Charter97.org learnt it from the press service of the Belarusian MFA.

“The discussion focused on a range of issues, including the establishment of a National Human Rights Institution, freedom of expression, assembly and association, the death penalty and the fight against inhuman and degrading treatment, as well as children’s rights. Cooperation with the UN and coordination on multilateral issues were also discussed,” the MFA's press release says.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Director General for Multilateral Diplomacy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich, the EU delegation was headed by Director for Human Rights and Democracy in the European External Action Service Silvio Gonzato.
