Young Front to hold congress in September

The 9th congress of the international public association Young Front is scheduled for September 12 and will be held in an open format.

BelaPAN was told about that by a co-chairman of the organisation, the former political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich.

Not only elected deputies from Minsk and regions are invited to take part in the work of the congress, but all members of the Young Front, as well as supporters and those who wish to join activities of the association. “There is an opinion that under the present conditions of reformatting the leadership and approaches to work, it is necessary to invite to participate in the congress all Young Front members who are ready to accept responsibility for the organisation functioning,” Dashkevich explained the unusual format of the congress.

As said by him, the previous congresses of the Young Front showed that “certain ideological contradictions” have always existed in the organisation. “Very often at our congresses liberal concepts come into conflict with conservative ones. Basically, it shows that it’s a living structure. Though apathy, decrease of the number of Young Front members are a great problem of the organisation. The organizational crisis typical for all oppositional structures, has reached the Young Front as well. However, there are people who are conscious about the future of the Young Front and Belarus, they are going to gather together and take decisions,” Dashkevich said.

He does not exclude that at the upcoming congress the leadership of the organisation could be changed completely. Dashkevich himself is not going to be nominated for leadership roles. “Two years ago I wanted to step down from leadership positions. I cannot say I am actively engaged in it now. The problem is, not many people now want to be active in community work,” the co-chairman of the Young Front noted.

He also commented on the departure from Belarus of one more co-chairman of the association, Eduard Lobau.

A few days ago it transpired that the former political prisoner Lobau left for Ukraine, where he participates in military operations with the Ukrainian army, after his video address appeared at YouTube channel. In the address Lobau said in particular: “If we don’t help Ukraine to fight in this war, Belarus could become the next stage for Russia.”

“Lobau is achieving his purposes and ideas in Ukraine,” Dashkevich said. “Basically, there is an important field of operations there, too. I am sure that the Belarusians who are fighting with Ukraine, are to become necessary in Belarus as well one day. So it could be said that Lobau has not left leadership, but reformatted his scope of work in the Young Front.”

We remind that the Young Front had 6 attempts to receive official registration in Belarus, but every time received denial from the Justice Ministry of Belarus, and had to be registered in the Czech Republic as an international youth association.

It should be noted that at the previous congress of the Young Front in October 2013 Zmitser Dashkevich didn’t plan to be nominated for the position of the organisation’s leader, but then he changed his mind. He explained that by the critical situation in the organisation, which even cannot “choose its leaders” smoothly. At the same congress it was decided to introduce the institution of co-chairmen in the Young Front, and Zmitser Dashkevich, Eduard Lobau and Andrei Tsyanyuta were elected as leaders of the organisation.
