Mirnyi, Lopez knocked out of Citi Open doubles

Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Spain's Feliciano Lopez suffered a quarterfinal defeat to the Croatian-Brazilian tandem of Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo at the $1.7 million ATP Citi Open in Washington.

Max Mirnyi and Feliciano Lopez lost in three sets 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-10.

In the opener the Belarusian-Spanish tandem defeated wide cards Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey of the United States in two sets 6-4, 7-6.

Elsewhere, Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka (World No.21) will open the $2.513 million Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada against world number 20 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine on 10 August. The winner of their encounter will further take on Czech Petra Kvitova (4) seeded third in the tournament. Last year Victoria Azarenka lost to Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the quarterfinal. The Belarusian did not play in Washington due to a shoulder injury.
