Mikalai Statkevich: If legitimate president surrenders Belarus, we won't be able to resist it

The former political prisoner explains why people shouldn't participate in the presidential “elections”.

Mikalai Statkevich said it at a press conference organised by leaders of the democratic forces in Minsk today, Nasha Niva reports.

The politician stressed he didn't believe the dictator who supports independence only in words. “He [Lukashenka] won't take arms to defend the country,” Mikalai Statkevich said. “ If the president who is considered to be legitimate by the international community surrenders Belarus to Russia, we won't be able to resist it,” the politician thinks. “Our main position is to ignore the electoral show.”

“We will demand to stop the campaign and carry out proper democratic elections. The campaign will probably will take several years, but we will achieve our aim,” Mikalai Statkevich stressed.

The Belarusian opposition leaders plan to launch a public campaign to inform people that “elections are already rigged”.
