Azarenka through at US Open, Sasnovich out

Belarus' number one Victoria Azarenka has followed Olga Govortsova to the US Open second round.

Belarus' 20th seed took a solid 6-1, 6-2 win over Czech Lucie Hradecka (World No.55) in the opener. Victoria Azarenka will next play World No.92 Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium. The Belarusian reached the US Open final twice (in 2012 and 2013) to lose it to Serena Williams of the United States.

Young Belarusian player Alexandra Sasnovich, ranked 118th, came through three rounds of qualifying to come down 1-6, 4-6 to Germany's Sabine Lisicki (World No.24) in her first round of the main draw.

Belarus' Olga Govortsova, ranked 68th, battled through Romania's 28th seed Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (7-3) in the opener. The Belarusian goes on to face World No.53 Mona Barthel of Germany.

In the men's doubles, Max Mirnyi of Belarus will pair with Spain's Feliciano Lopez, while Sergei Betov will play in tandem with Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain. Alexander Bury will team up with Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan. Apart from that, Max Mirnyi will also play in the mixed doubles together with Anastasia Rodionova of Australia. The Belarusian has five US Open titles on his record: with Lleyton Hewitt of Australia in 2000 and Mahesh Bhupathi in 2002, and also in the mixed doubles with Serena Williams of the United States in 1998, Victoria Azarenka in 2007 and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in 2013.

The US Open prize money for 2015 will make up $42.3 million. Winners in the men's and women's singles will get $3.3 million each, while finalists will earn $1.6 million each. The doubles champions will get $570,000 each, while the finalists will earn $275,000 each. The season's final Grand Slam tournament finishes on 13 September.
