Shapira threatens residents of Dziarzhysnk district with KGB in response to request for electricity connection

Owners of summer houses near Minsk have been living without electricity, gas and water for six years.

Representatives of authorities threaten them with the KGB and a tax audit instead of solving the problem, charter97.org learnt from Yury, who received a plot of land in the village of Slabodka (Dziarzhynsk district) in 2009.

“We were on the housing waiting list, but we were offered a plot of land 10 kilometres from Fanipal in 2009. We agreed to take it, all the more so because they promised to connect the house to utilities. We have built the house, but we still don't have water, gas and electricity. We met with head of the Dziarzhynsk district executive committee Mikalai Artsiushkevich many times and raised the question, but it was in vain,” he said.

According to Yury, state-owned TV channels covered the problem, but it gave no effect. He met with head of the Minsk region executive committee Siamion Shapira twice. He promised to solve the problem but later began to threaten.

“The first meeting was in May 2014. Shapira promised to solve the issue by September, but it wasn't performed. The second meeting was in August 2015. We were told that 'circumstances have changed' and we had to pay $20,000 for utilities. The head of the Minsk regional executive committee began to threaten us with the KGB and a tax audit, because it's unclear how we had built the house,” Yury says.
