“Heroes don't die”: More than 150 people come to pay last respects to Ales Charkashyn

The funeral of Ales Charkashyn, who was killed while defending Ukraine's independence in Donbas, was held in Brest.

More than 150 people came to Ales's house, Belsat reports. A baptist pastor delivered a eulogy during the official part of the service.

Ales parents, friends and activists Pavel and Tatsiana Seviarynets, Mikalai Dzemidzenka, Zmitser Dashkevich, Andrei Kim, Hanna Shaputska and others were among the mourners.

The open casket covered with a white-red-white flag was placed for viewing in the middle of the yard. People brought white-red-white flowers and national flags. Many knelt and chanted “Heroes don't die!” A hearse carried the coffin to the village of Kamianitsa-Zhyravetskaya, where Ales will be buried.

The man's body was delivered to Brest yesterday.

Ales Charkashyn, 33, is a Belarusian from the Ukrainian volunteer brigade Right Sector. He died last Friday of the wounds he received in the battle near the village of Starohnativka in eastern Ukraine. He had the nickname Taras and had fought in Ukraine since the beginning of winter.
