“Let's inspect those who sell cottages at 1.5 million dollars”
Leanid Sudalenka

The authorities continue pressurizing the human rights defender Leanid Sudalenka.

The tax authorities require from the Independent Trade Union of Radio Electronic Industry an income statement of their lawyer for the last seven years, despite the fact that Mr. Sudalenka had already reported about his income and assets for the period up to 2012 inclusive.

According to praca-by.info, Homieĺ District Inspection on Dues and Taxes required TUREI to present the information about the income of Leanid Sudalenka for 2007-2014, including wages, financial aid and other payments.

Earlier, the tax inspection demanded that the lawyer repeatedly filed an income report, but refused to explain the reasons. Leanid Sudalenka tried to obtain an explanation from the tax authorities through court. However, the court dismissed his claims.

“I regularly filed income and assets declarations on the requirement of the Ministry of Dues and Taxes starting from 2002. In 2012 I filed declaration for five years. Then the tax inspection also demanded an income declaration from my mother-in-law, my son (who was serving in the army at the moment) and, of course, my wife. They already have all this information. That's why their demands are incomprehensible, and I required explanations. However, they answered with a denial, which I deem as illegal, as far as it violates the Constitution, violates my right to information, and directly affects my rights and legitimate interests,” said Leanid Sudalenka.

“This is a re-inspection, as I've already reported about my income up to 2012, and there were no questions to me. I believe that in such a way the authorities pressurize me and my family for my human rights activities. They could request information for just two years, 2013 and 2014, and I would have no questions then,” added the trade union activist.

Instead, as we see, the tax authorities required information from the trade union.

Let us remind that at the end of August 2015 Mr. Sudalenka was forcefully set off the trade Vilnius-Minsk and was let go only two hours later, after a thorough search.

“I think that the secret services are behind all this. They have hacked my e-mail account and sent pornography from it, after which they have instigated a criminal case under this pretext. They held searches at my work and home and seized computers. As there is no progress in this case, they create obstacles on the border, setting me down the train, and have started re-examining my income,” he said. “But they are looking in the wrong place! Instead, they should have inspected the assets of those who are selling the cottages, that have allegedly been built at the wage of a state official, at $1.5 million, or those, who are teaching the people how to leave, waving their hands with watches that cost €15,000.”
