Russia to deliver BTR-82A to Belarus in 2016

Russia and Belarus signed a contract at Russia Arms Expo in Nizhny Tagil on the delivery of BTR-82A armoured personnel carriers for the Belarusian Armed Forces.

The statement was made by major general Siarhei Simanenka, the first deputy head of armaments of the Armed Forces of Belarus, TASS news agency reports.

“The Russian side and we have signed a contract on the supplies of modern armoured personnel carriers BTR-82A for our country's Armed Forces,” he said.

Simanenka stressed that the vehicles would arrive at Belarusian military bases in 2016. “The vehicles allow performing a wide range of tasks with high efficiency, so our army is interested in them,” the general explained.

These personnel carriers are developed and produced by the Russian Military Industrial Company, which also produces Bumerang armoured personnel carriers. TASS earlier learnt from a source in the Russian military industrial complex that Belarus would receive more than 10 vehicles.

BTR-82A is a refurbished version of the BTR-80 armoured personnel carrier that was released in 2010. The vehicle has a new weapon station with a fully-stabilized 30mm dual-feed automatic cannon, increased protection, a more powerful engine and a new fire control system.
