Paliyenka’s Speech In Court Accompanied With ‘Long Live Belarus!’ Chanting

Dzmitry Paliyenka recited the verse written by former political prisoner Ihar Alinevich about the love to Belarus and fighting for its freedom.

Making the last speech in the Central district court of Minsk today, the “Critical Mass” cyclist Dzmitry Paliyenka thanked everyone for their support straightaway, Radio Liberty reports.

The activist stated that they wanted to isolate him due to political reasons as he had participated in the actions of the opposition, for which he was punished. As for the participation in the bicycle ride “Critical Mass”, he said he had a right to do that, such rides were held throughout the world and were banned only in Belarus.

He also called the criminal case on the torn policeman’s jacket inappropriate.

“It remains a mystery to me where the police found the video, but they are obviously using it to put me behind the bars,” — Paliyenka stated.

After that, Dzmitry Paliyenka started reciting the verse written by former political prisoner Ihar Alinevich about the love to Belarus and fighting for its freedom.

The audience in the court hall applauded and chanted “Long Live Belarus!” to the activist’s speech.

The sentence will be pronounced tomorrow at 2 p.m.

We remind, Public Prosecutor Aleh Yurkevich offered to subject Dzmitry Paliyenka to criminal responsibility in the form of imprisonment for two years with delay of sentence and to release him from custody in the court hall.

The trial against cyclist Dzmitry Paliyenka has started at 10 a.m. today in Minsk. The trial is conducted by the Central district court of Minsk, judge Valer Yesman.

Paliyenka was brutally detained back on April 29 in Minsk, together with the other participants of the bicycle ride “Critical Mass”. The youngster is charged under two articles of the Criminal Code: violence or threat thereof against an officer of the interior bodies, and making and distributing porn materials.
