The discussion "New Security Challenges in Europe" was held In Ottawa.

The European Belarus civil campaign leader Andrei Sannikov, who is visiting Canada these days, took part in the discussion "New Security Challenges in Europe" in Ottawa, organized by the Institute of Macdonald-Laurier, one of the leading analytical centers.

The discussion was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Ivan Klympush-Tsintsadze, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence of Canada John McKay, Ambassador of Latvia to Canada Carly Eihenbaums and institute representative Christian Lepreht.

The participants discussed issues of the hybrid war, Russian aggression in Ukraine, propaganda warfare, European policy in the face of new challenges.

Andrei Sannikov drew attention to the fact that it is hardly possible to provide security in Europe and to help Ukraine in its war with Russia without a democratic Belarus.

"The democratic world does not have an adequate response to Russia’s information warfare, the independent media in our region don’t get real support. We can’t just play nice and hope that Russia will run out of resources and things will sort themselves out soon. The Kremlin has been using the dictatorial model created by Lukashenka long since, and can carry out its insane plans for account of the drop in the people’s living standards," – Andrei Sannikov said.

The Belarusian diaspora representatives, including Ivonka Survila, attended the discussion.

On the same day, the Belarusian Centre in Toronto hosted presentation of Andrei Sannikov’s book "Belarusian Amerikanka or Elections Under Dictatorship". During the presentation, an interesting conversation about the elections 2010, the current situation in Belarus and the prospects of its development took place.

The day before, the European Belarus leader met in the parliament with both representatives of the government and the opposition, as well as with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada.
