Mikalai Statkevich was appointed the head of the Military Commission of the Belarusian National Congress.

Rada of the Belarusian National Congress established the Military Commission at the meeting of December 7, chaired by one of the Belarusian opposition leaders, ex-presidential candidate at the elections 2010 Mikalai Statkevich.

In connection with the creation of the Military Commission, Rada of the Belarusian National Congress voted an appeal to the Belarusian patriots, the text of which charter97.org publishes in whole.

Declaration of Rada of the Belarusian National Congress

The political situation around Belarus develops in such a way, that our country could be drawn into military conflicts, become a target for external aggression. We must have an efficient, strong in spirit, fully dedicated to the Fatherland and the people of Belarus army to counter this possible threat. Such an army, no matter how it is equipped technically, cannot be created on the basis of other people's borrowed traditions and ideals. Such an army can be created only on the basis of a deep sense of national history, embracing military glory, legacy and national pride. Without it, as shown by Ukraine's experience, where the armed forces were in fact pro-Russian and handed over a part of the Ukrainian territory without resistance to Russia, it is impossible to create an army, which is ready to defend the motherland, selflessly struggle for its freedom and independence at any moment.

The situation analysis in the Belarusian armed forces shows, that the authorities are doing nothing for educating officers and soldiers, devoted to Belarus, not to some intruders. This is evidenced by many facts, including the fact that it’s much more difficult for the officers with patriotic feelings to rise from the ranks, as compared to those, who consider the Belarusian army a "union" one – a step away from being a part of the Russian army.

Due to the problems that exist in the Belarusian armed forces, Rada of the Belarusian National Congress considered it necessary to create the Military Commission.

The Commission, which is guided by Article 57 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, is entrusted with the task of getting the citizens ready to defend their homeland, rendering assistance to power structures in improving the psychological and mental readiness of soldiers and officers.

The main purpose of the military commission is to preserve and strengthen the Belarusian independence, we call for cooperation both military specialists and all patriots of Belarus for the sake of that.

Long Live Belarus!
