Russia supplies Belarus with weapons the way it may stay above reproach.

Dzmitry Tymchuk, coordinator of Information Resistance group and deputy of the People's Front, believes that the delivery of three battalion of S-300 to Belarus means a return to a cold war and arms race.

He told Gordon edition.

"In fact, it is arms race. All that is happening at the moment is the return to the cold war, although some people in the West say that Russia is their good ally. Political statements of western leaders should be considered apart from real military and political steps. Generals of the Pentagon were the one who saw the situation in Donbas and the Crimea clearly from the very start," Tymchuk said.

According to him, Russia wants to demonstrate its power the way there will be no ground to throw a complaint against.

"Russia is as crazy as fox. On the one hand, it demonstrates its military superiority, because placement of weapons, the build-up of troops on our borders is a military and political pressure, a mean of blackmail. On the other hand, Russia is trying not to escalate the situation, where it is not needed to, remembering about sanctions. S-300 is a modern air defense system, you can use it to perform serious tasks for air policing, but it is a defensive system," the expert says.

"How S-300 can threaten Ukraine? Well, it may shoot down air targets that are in our mid-air, but not far from borders. There is almost nothing to blame Russia for. If it started to deploy 9K720 Iskander (NATO reporting name SS-26 Stone), it would be a real threat," Tymchuk added.

It should be reminded that on February 9 Russia sent three battalions of S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Belarus. Aleh Dvihalyeu, Air Forces officer-in-charge, says that two battalions of rocket systems were sent from Khabarovsk and will be in service of the 377th SAM regiment in Polatsk, the third battalion "will be deployed in Barysau, the fourth one is expected in March. It will be delivered from Norilsk with an operational station.
